Subsea cable maker ties up Australian contract

A subsea cable maker has secured an Australian energy contract.

JDR Cable Systems is set to supply equipment to the East Coast Supply Project.

Bosses say the firm will make 18 kilometres of hydraulic control lines at its Hartlepool plant for the venture.

They add the deal could include an extra 13 kilometres of cabling if drilling is successful, with installation set for next year.

Overseen by Amplitude Energy, the East Coast Supply Project is set to deliver gas to the Athena Gas Plant, which serves homes and businesses across Victoria and South Australia.

JK Lim, JDR regional sales manager, said: “This contract reflects our proven capability in delivering high-quality subsea control umbilicals for complex offshore developments.

“We look forward to delivering reliable solutions that will contribute to long-term gas supply for Victoria.”

The business complements its Hartlepool base with a UK service centre in Newcastle, and previously invested in an additional site at Cambois, near Blyth, Northumberland.
